Privacy Policy

This policy applies to the News Resources live stream platform at view.newsr.nz, operated by News Resources Ltd ("we", "us"). It explains what personal information we collect, why, and how we protect it. This platform is operated in New Zealand and we comply with the Privacy Act 2020.
Who we are
News Resources Ltd is a Wellington-based video production and parliamentary media services company. We operate from within New Zealand's Parliament precinct and hold Associate Member status in the Parliamentary Press Gallery.

What we collect and why

How we use your information
- Sending a one-time email verification link when you first register
- Providing access to live and pre-registered streams via your viewer dashboard
- Sending notification emails only for the specific alerts you have opted into
- Maintaining records of parliamentary coverage attendance for our own reporting
- Detecting and preventing abuse of watch links
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes. We do not use your information for advertising or profiling.
Authentication and sessions
This platform uses passwordless authentication. When you want to sign in, we send a one-time magic link to your email address. Clicking it creates a secure session that lasts 30 days. No passwords are stored.
Watch links are unique, personal tokens tied to your email address. They cannot be used by anyone else.
Cookies and local storage
We use strictly necessary cookies only — no tracking, advertising, or analytics cookies. Our cookies are:

We also use localStorage (browser storage, not a cookie) to remember that you have acknowledged this privacy notice, so we don't show it repeatedly.
Your rights under the Privacy Act 2020
You have the right to:
- Ask what personal information we hold about you
- Request correction of any inaccurate information
- Request deletion of your account and associated data
- Withdraw consent to receive notification emails at any time (via your dashboard notification preferences)
- Make a complaint to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner if you believe we have mishandled your information

Data security
Your data is stored on servers located in New Zealand. We use HTTPS encryption for all connections, HTTP-only secure session cookies, and access controls to limit who can view personal data. Watch links are single-use tokens that cannot be guessed.
Third parties
We use the following services to operate the platform:
- Owncast — open-source self-hosted streaming software. Viewer IP addresses may appear in its access logs on our own server.
- Google Fonts — used to load typography. Google may log your IP address when fonts are requested. See Google's privacy policy.
No other third-party services receive your personal data.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last revised. Significant changes will be communicated to registered viewers by email.
